Politics

"Do your politics fit between the headlines,

are they written in newsprint, are they distant?

mine are crossing an empty parking lot,

they are a woman walking home, at night, alone…"

-ani difranco

Love your Life

"Far too many of us pin the hopes of our Happiness to another person. We really feel that if this person ever left us there would be no way for us to ever feel joy. But real Happiness comes from within. It is a gift we must give ourselves. Trying to place the responsibility on the shoulders of a loved one, is a burden that can not be carried by anyone.
Love your life and it will Love you back."

This is still my favourite ad.

Let go...

"I think of the trees and how simply they let go, let fall the riches of season, how without grief they can let go and go deep into their roots for renewal"

May Sarton “Journal of a Solitude

Sartorial Sounds

"Sartorial Sounds integrates both music and style, two elements embedded in every culture past and present. We think it's important to remember that everyone is an artist in their own right. And it's the life experiences we encounter that provoke what we splash on our own blank canvas. We assembled seven individuals to partake in this editorial. The finished product incorporates their individual talents such as spoken word, rapping, singing and tap.

remake/ recast

I want there to be a place in the world where people can engage in one another’s differences in a way that is redemptive, full of hope and possibility.
Not this “In order to love you, I must make you something else”.
That’s what domination is all about, that in order to be close to you, I must possess you, remake and recast you.”
― bell hooks, Reel To Real: Race, Sex, and Class at the Movies

A Path

“If I were really asked to define myself, I wouldn’t start with race; I wouldn’t start with blackness; I wouldn’t start with gender; I wouldn’t start with feminism.
I would start with stripping down to what fundamentally informs my life, which is that I’m a seeker on the path.
I think of feminism, and I think of anti-racist struggles as part of it.
But where I stand spiritually is, steadfastly, on a path about Love.”

Stand up

I, with a deeper instinct, choose a man who compels my strength, who makes enormous demands on me, who does not doubt my courage or my toughness, who does not believe me naive or innocent, who has the courage to treat me like a woman.
Anaïs Nin

as a couple of nuts
who stood their ground.
